NG Wire FAQs

What is NG Wire?
NG Wire is an app for professionals involved in the electrical construction industry. NG Wire utilizes commonly used National Electrical Code® (NEC®) tables and calculations for general building wiring, conduit, grounding, minimum cover, and motor data. Users can look up values and perform both general and detailed conduit fill calculations based on these NEC® tables. Visit the NG Wire page for more information.

Who should use NG Wire?
NG Wire can be used by anyone who is involved in designing, installing, plan checking, or inspecting electrical systems governed by the NEC®. This typically includes Electrical Engineers, Electricians, Plan Checkers, and Inspectors.

Which NEC® data year should I use?
To find out which NEC® data year your state has currently adopted, visit the NEC Enforcement Page.

Does NG Wire replace the NEC®?
No. NG Wire is a calculation/lookup aid and users must verify requirements against the adopted NEC® code edition

Does NG Wire include voltage drop, transformer, or fault current calculations?
No. NG Wire does not include voltage drop, transformer, or fault current calculations. Future NG Orange™ apps will cover these topics. Please check the App Store periodically for new apps.

How do I restore, change, cancel, or request a refund for my NG Wire subscription?
To manage your subscription, click on the menu icon (…) in the upper left corner while in the NG Wire app. Select “Settings”. Click on “Manage Subscription”. From this screen you will be able to restore past purchases, change subscription plans, cancel a subscription, or request a refund through Apple. NOTE: After cancelling your subscription, you can use NG Wire for the remainder of the trial or subscription period that you paid for.

Does my paid subscription give me access to all updates?
Yes. Users with a paid subscription will automatically get all NG Wire updates at no additional cost.

What is included in the updates?
NG Wire updates include data from the three-year publication cycle of the NEC®, starting with the 2020 NEC®. Each State adopts a publication of the NEC® at different times and in different cycles. See the NEC Enforcement Page for a detailed summary of which States have adopted which publications of the NEC® and when future adoptions are planned.

How often is NG Wire updated?
NG Wire is updated a minimum of every 3 years, when the NEC® releases a new version of the code. The NG Wire update will be available soon after the new NEC® is released to the public. Previous NEC® data in NG Wire will continue to be available until all States have adopted a newer version of the NEC®. After a previous version is no longer adopted in any State, it will no longer be included in future NG Wire updates. A notification will alert users before the data is removed.

What is the current version of NG Wire?
