NG Wire™ is an app for professionals involved in the electrical construction industry. NG Wire™ utilizes popular National Electrical Code® (NEC®) tables for general building wiring, conduit, and motor data. Users can look up values and handle general and detailed conduit fill calculations, based on these NEC® tables.

NG Wire™ streamlines the daily process of wire, motor, and conduit calculations for fast, efficient, and accurate results. NG Wire™ can go with you anywhere, from your office as you design, to in the field as you review or plan an installation and need quick reference to NEC® data. Gone are the days of using cumbersome code book paper or PDF look-up tables.

NG Wire

NG Wire™ includes 11 of the most used NEC® tables and calculation topics. These include:

  1. Wire Ampacity

  2. Ambient Temperature Correction Factor

  3. More Than 3 Current Carrying Conductors in Conduit Adjustment

  4. Equipment Grounding Conductor

  5. Grounding Electrode Conductor

  6. Increased Size Ground Wire

  7. Conduit Fill Tables

  8. Percent Fill Calculations

  9. Minimum Conduit Cover Requirements

  10. 1-Phase Motors

  11. 3-Phase Motors

Wire Ampacity
  • Ampacity is used to look up the rated ampacity of insulated conductors rated 0-2000V, installed in an ambient temperature of 30°C or 40°C, with no more than 3 current carrying conductors in a raceway, cable, or earth (directly buried). The information comes from the NEC® Conductor Ampacity Tables for 30°C and 40°C ambient temp bases.

  • Ambient Temp is used to look up the ampacity temperature correction factor for conductors used in temperatures other than 30°C and 40°C. The information comes from the NEC® Temperature Correction Factor Tables for 30°C and 40°C. Choose the actual ambient temperature where the conductors will be installed and see the resulting correction factor.

  • More Than 3 is used to look up the ampacity adjustment factor to be applied when there are more than 3 current carrying conductors in a raceway or cable. The information comes from the NEC® Ampacity Adjustment Factor Table. Choose the quantity of conductors in the same raceway or cable and see the resulting adjustment factor.

Grounding
  • Equipment is used to look up the required minimum size of an equipment grounding conductor used to ground raceways and equipment. The information comes from the NEC® Equipment Grounding Conductor Table. Choose the wire type and the overcurrent protection rating or setting ahead of the conduit or equipment and see the required minimum equipment grounding conductor size.

  • Electrode is used to look up the required minimum size of the grounding electrode conductor for alternating current systems. The information comes from the NEC® Grounding Electrode Conductor Table. Choose the wire type and the size of the largest ungrounded conductor, or equivalent area for parallel conductors serving the equipment, and see the required minimum grounding electrode conductor size.

  • Increased Size is used to calculate the required upsized equipment grounding conductor size for a branch circuit or feeder, where the ungrounded phase conductors have been increased in size to accommodate other parameters such as voltage drop.

Conduit Fill
  • Fill Tables is used to look up the maximum number of conductors of the same type and size that are permitted to be installed in one raceway. The information comes from the NEC® Conduit Fill Tables. Choose the listed conduit and wire characteristics and see the resulting maximum number of conductors allowed.

  • % Fill Calculation is used to calculate the percentage of conduit fill for up to 4 different types and sizes of conductors installed in one conduit. The information comes from the NEC® Conduit and Conductor Property Tables. Choose up to 4 combinations of different wire types and sizes to be installed in one conduit type and size and see the resulting calculated percent conduit fill.

Minimum Cover
  • Minimum Cover is used to look up the minimum cover requirements for buried conduits or cables, from 0 to 1000 VAC and 1500VDC. The information comes from the NEC® Minimum Cover Table. Choose the listed characteristics and see the resulting minimum cover requirement.

Motors
  • 1-Phase is used to look up the full load current values for different sizes of 1-phase motors. The information comes from the NEC® 1-Phase Motor Data Table. Choose the listed characteristics and see the corresponding 1-phase full load current.

  • 3-Phase is used to look up the full load current values for different types and sizes of 3-phase motors. The information comes from the NEC® 3-Phase Motor Data Table. Choose the listed characteristics and see the corresponding 3-phase full load current.
